WestJet has revealed it will launch a new non-stop service between Vancouver and London in 2016, with pricing beginning at a mere $299 for one-way flights.

“Canadians have been paying far too much to fly to Europe for far too long and today, as we have throughout our history, we’re going to fix that,” said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Commercial. “We are offering non-stop flights at very low prices and we’re proud to once again lower airfares and make travel more affordable.”

The direct flights will begin on May 6, 2015, and travel from Vancouver to Gatwick, with a base price of $244, with $55 in taxes, fees and air transportation charges.

Flights are scheduled to depart from Vancouver six times a week at 5:50pm, and arrive in London the following day at 11:24am GMT. Flights from London to Vancouver will also depart six times a week at 12:55pm GMT, and arrive in Vancouver at 3:40pm.

WestJet will also offer introductory pricing that adds only an additional $20 one way to connect from select airports into the six cities serving London (Gatwick).

Located just 30 minutes from all of Central London’s many attractions, Gatwick is also one of the easiest London airports to navigate, with a monorail connecting its two terminals.

All flights to London from Vancouver will be operated on WestJet’s 767-300ERW extended range aircraft, which seats up to 262 passengers. The aircraft will also include a Plus cabin with 24 premium seats in a two-by-two configuration.

The announcement comes at an interesting time, primarily due to the falling loonie. Just the other day, Dollarama CEO stated that all 900 stores across Canada would be quadrupling prices to $4, to make up for the dollar’s decline. Westjet on the other hand seems to be slashing prices right, left, and centre.
