We are so fortunate to live in a city where hikes are a dime a dozen, and if you’re current enough to have Instagram then you’ve seen the absolute gorgeous pictures people have taken while hiking Garibaldi Lake.

There’s no reason why those pictures can’t be yours. Here are five reasons to trek that 30 kilometers and visit Garibaldi Lake.
1. You can make a camping trip out of it and call it glamping; the Garibaldi Lake campsite is located on the amazing, turquoise shores of a massive mountain lake.
2. There are no trails around the perimeter of the lake with the exception of the small section leading to the campsite, so your view of the lake is an uninterrupted sea of coloured water swarmed by forest and the glacier towering over you in the distance.

3. For those that are in it to hike the trail to Garibaldi Lake from the Rubble Creek trailhead, just off of the Sea to Sky Highway takes about two hours. You do gain a fair amount of elevation, 900 meters in just 9km.
It’s quite the adventure because half way through the trail to Garibaldi Lake the trail forks. Right to Garibaldi Lake and left goes to another beautiful campground. Past Taylor Meadows (the other camp ground) you can link back to Garibaldi Lake by yet another linking trail. Not to worry because at every trail fork, there are clear signs and large map boards showing you where you are and how far you have left.

4. Good news for everyone because there is no charge for parking at the trailhead or for hiking. There is a charge for camping but it’s cheaper than an your typical ice-cream cone in Yaletown at $10 per person.

5. For that dare devil in all of us or just to get the picture, you can swim in the lake but just a warning the water is glacier!
