Vancouver Theatre Group Expands to Plays, Musicals And Opera

Imagine a company run by young artists, for young artists, where talent comes to life. Well, Vancouver-based Opera Mariposa has been doing just that since 2012 and after three successful seasons is expanding with its own theatre wing.

The artist organization’s productions will now include the presentation of plays, musicals and opera.

The support in Vancouver’s art scene was clear from the get go as described by Artistic Director Jacqueline Ko:

“The fact that Opera Mariposa has been able to grow year after year – and is poised for such a major expansion in only our fourth season – owes to the fantastic community support we’ve received. It’s a wonderful testament to how much Vancouverites value the arts.”

The production company is keen on being the platform to showcase multi-talented performers and give opportunities for opera and musical theatre singers to cross-over. Funds from a crowd funding campaign will support the launch production of Master Class, a Tony Award-winning play which runs weekends Feb 19-28th at the Marpole United Church in Vancouver.

Opera Mariposa is known for supporting local and emerging talent by putting on gala concerts, original shows and fully staged opera productions. In addition to performing at street festivals and senior facilities, their benefit concerts have raised over $30,000 for charities.
