The University of British Columbia announced the future of student housing on Monday.
The 140-square-foot fully furnished spaces are being referred to as “nano” suites.
The suite is roughly the same size as the average parking stall—but somehow manages to have a micro kitchen, a bathroom and a bed that folds up into a desk.

A demo of the micro apartments are on display now until April 1 at the AMS building.
The new initiative will provide more affordable housing options on campus. The suites are expected to rent out for $700 a month when they are ready for occupancy in 2019.
The new residence building with the nano suites will be located at the core of campus—just a 10-minute walk to most classes and three minutes from the fitness centre.
Each of the suites will be wired with high-speed Internet but will not be furnished with TVs. As an alternative, TVs with basic cable will be available in common lounge areas on each floor.
