Talking about the Birds and the Bee(r)s at Finch & Barley

Finch & Barley Vancouver

The North Shore isn’t typically known for its cool restaurants and bars. However, tucked away a couple blocks off of Lonsdale is Finch & Barley, Finch & Barley Vancouver
a relatively new place that’s deviating from the norm. From the outside the space is unassuming and only marked by a small sign, but once you step inside you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere far from the sleepy streets of North Vancouver.

Owners (and husband and wife) Ali and Jessica Naghibi, opened the restaurant in May 2012. Ali explained that the name Finch & Barley was inspired from childhood memories. He grew up on a wheat and barley farm when he was younger and used to shoot at (er, play with…) finches. Since barley is also one of the main ingredients in beer, the name evolved from there.

The beers they have on tap all come from local breweries (Granville Island, Russell, Driftwood, Phillips, and Parallel 49) and are constantly being rotated. They also have bottled beer, wine and a cocktail list which includes drinks such as ‘ The Master Cleanse’, a mix of bourbon, lemon, maple syrup and cayenne and ‘ The Cool Cuke’, which consists of Bombay Sapphire gin, elderflower liqueur, cucumber, mint, lime and soda.

Besides drinks, Finch & Barley offers a wide variety of food options from classic burgers and fries to lamb kabobs and flatbreads. Whenever possible they use organic and locally sourced ingredients and are currently in the process of introducing some new menu items. That being said, if you are only looking for a drink, they do bring you delicious complimentary popcorn to go along with it.

Finch & Barley is open 6pm until late, Tuesday through Sunday, as well as for brunch on the weekends.

There’s something for everyone throughout the week:

Tuesday: Burger and Beer for $10 (Russell Lager Beer and the Finch & Barley Burger which comes on a toasted kaiser bun with cheddar, hamburger relish, crisp romaine, tomato, red onion, and spicy jalapeño mayo)

Thursday: Rotating Live Musical Guests

Friday: Resident DJ

 Saturday: Rotating guest DJ

Saturdays & Sundays: Brunch from 11am-3pm
