When you think of Vancouver and movie franchises the likes of Twilight, 50 Shades and X-Men take the top of the list. Speaking of X-Men, you can add the phenomenon that is Ryan Reynolds aka Deadpool to that mix as well. The rebooted Planet of The Apes series and some of the Air Bud movies also shot around town.

Dig a little deeper and you’ll find that more of your favourite flicks have roots in Vancouver and a robust relationship with the BC film industry including the first four of five movies in the Scary Movie franchise and all five Final Destination movies. WWE’s The Marine movies and Disney’s Descendants have also found home here.

Friendship, honour and country all in one. The fourth installment and pivotal movie in the Rocky franchise saw Apollo Creed beaten to death at the hands of Soviet champ Ivan Drago played by Dolph Lundgren. USA vs USSR. Rocky vs. Drago. Fight!

The Rocky vs. Drago bout took place in the PNE’s Agrodome.

First Blood (1982)

The beginning of the iconic Rambo series, First Blood was shot around British Columbia in Hope, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and North Vancouver. The movie, based on the novel of the same name, filmed during the winter of 1981 with filming dates of October 1981 – January 1982.

The town of Hope doubled for the town scenes while the Othello Tunnels played a gorge. Golden Ears Provincial Park in Maple Ridge and Pitt Lake in Pitt Meadows were the other primary filming locations.

The Italian Stallion is a basically a box-office magnet and franchise king with Rocky (and now Creed), Rambo, The Expendables and Escape Plan. He has also appeared in the Marvel Universe playing Stakar Ogord / Starhawk in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

Sly has two other lesser known movies that were also partly shot in Vancouver including Driven (2001) and Eye See You (2002) – which shot in Vancouver, Whistler and New Westminster.
