Surrey Is Getting a New Sports Hall of Fame and Nominations Just Opened

It’s no secret that Surrey is packed with talent in its sports community, which is why the city is opening a brand-new Sports Hall of Fame! Celebrating the rich and diverse sporting history of Surrey, this Hall of Fame will be honouring individuals, teams, builders, and coaches who have made significant contributions to the sports community in the city.

And right now, they’re looking for nominations! This is an exciting opportunity for Surrey sports community members to come together and submit the folks that they think deserve the spotlight. Be part of history in helping make these amazing choices.

Sports Stardom

The Surrey Sports Hall of Fame will be coming to City Centre Arena, but in anticipation for its permanent home, it will also have a temporary exhibition space at the Museum of Surrey. Moreover, you will be able to find digital kiosks spread throughout Surrey later in the year at select civic facilities, which will feature interactive storytelling elements that tell of Surrey’s sports legacy.

“Sport is woven into the fabric of our city — it builds character, unites communities, and inspires future generations,” said Mayor Brenda Locke.

With over 1,000 survey responses, the Hall of Fame was greatly shaped by community engagement. Now, the city is asking you– the community, sports organizations, and residents– to submit who should be showcased in this celebration of sports! This is your chance to be part of a historic exhibition that will highlight the excellence of Surrey’s sports for decades to come.

As for how you can nominate an individual (or a team), just head to the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame page to submit a nomination form. The Hall of Fame will be recognizing the excellence and achievements of a variety of sports community members, which means there’s a fair number of categories that you can submit for. This includes:

  • Athlete
  • High performance athlete
  • Team
  • Builder
  • Coach
  • Game changer
  • Community hero

Nominees must also meet some general requirements and criteria specific to the category that they’re nominated for. For one, they must be born/raised in Surrey and began their participation in sport there. Or, they must have represented Surrey during which time they achieved notable success in their sport.

Letters of recommendation are also encouraged, as to give your nominee the best chance of being selected by the independent committee. They work to support and strengthen the nomination by showing community support.

Nominations Open Now!

The nomination window is open right now, and will close on December 31. Each June, a new class of inductees will be celebrated for their dedication and achievements to Surrey’s sports legacy.
