Calling all outdoor exercise enthusiasts!
With summer in full-swing, it’s a good time to explore the plethora of parks in the Lower Mainland and get out to enjoy the sunshine.
Take your workout outdoors by going up and down the stairs at Surrey’s hidden gem – 1001 Steps Park.
The trail was temporarily closed during 2020, but the city finally announced its reopening earlier this month. Along with the Christopherson Steps a few blocks away.

Despite its name ‘1001 Steps Park’, it actually only has about 284 steps (give or take). But, it’s still an awesome way to get your sweat on while breathing in that fresh air and soaking up the scenery.
It’s like a miniature version of the Grouse Grind if you’re looking to train yourself before taking on the popular North Vancouver rite of passage.
The steps lead down to a pathway where you will have to cross the train tracks and then it will take you to a cobble beach area. Enjoy stunning ocean views from the steps and pathway leading up to the beach.
If you’re lucky enough you may even spot some Blue Herons or Harbour seals sunbathing out on the rocks.
1,001 steps park is open from dawn to dusk everyday. The stairs are a popular spot for many people to get their cardio workout in; a free and fun alternative to the gym.
The staircase was originally built in the 1990s, along with another similar set of stairs closer to Crescent Beach, which are now known as the Christopherson Steps.

Location: South Surrey’s Ocean Park neighbourhood. Find the park at the 12500 Block of 15A Avenue.
