PNE Shoots Down Rumors Of Plans For Disneyland-style Theme Park

Following reports of Playland Park and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) undergoing a “Disneyland-style theme park” renovation, the PNE spokesperson has stepped out to shoot down the rumours.

While the park does have some plans in place, they unfortunately do not include Micky Mouse and his gang.

“It’s important to understand that what we are talking about is an expansion and revitalization of Playland that will be a transformation of Playland from an amusement park to more of a theme park, but it’s not what the public would generally think of as a Disneyland-style theme park” said spokesperson Laura Ballance.

“An initial study came up with some ideas of what that plan could look like, with estimated costs and we’re now at the stage of asking City Council to approve a budget of $1.5 million for the next phase of design, costing and funding strategy for the project,”

A report that will be voted upon Vancouver City Council next week, will ask for $120 million over ten years.

“the reason we are going to City Council next week is we are asking to move forward on the next stage of the project. This is not a presentation of a final plan nor a request for the $120 million in construction capital. The PNE and city staff have worked on this project for the past four years and we’re excited to take this next step in the process.” adds Balance.

In addition to expanding the park, the PNE is also exploring the idea of moving dates to mid-summer in the near future.
