A Popular Snack Was Just Recalled Across B.C. Due To Salmonella Contamination

You might want to throw out some of your favourite snacks because a recall was just issued. Announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), concerns over potential Salmonella contamination.

PISTACHIO KERNEL RECALL

The recall was issued on October 7, recalling Pistachio Kernels with the code starting with 200422.

Due to possible Salmonella contamination, the popular nuts are being pulled off the shelves. Consumers and retailers are being advised to not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products. The pistachios can either be thrown out or returned to the location where they were originally purchased.

“Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” said the recall notice. “Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.”

Some short-term symptoms in healthy people include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea

“Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

If you think you have become sick from consuming the recalled product, the recall notice advises you to contact your healthcare provider.

The Pistachio Kernels were sold only in British Columbia at Kourosh Foods Market, which is located at 1860 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver.

More than 25 pistachio product recalls have been issued in Canada since July. Additionally, over a dozen people have been hospitalized recently with links to Salmonella outbreaks from pistachios.
