Transport Canada has just issued a major recall for thousands of vehicles.
If your vehicle is on the recall list, then it may be at the risk of catching on fire. Dangerous not only for the driver but also other motorists and pedestrians, owners are being advised to follow the prescribed corrective actions as soon as possible.
BMW VEHICLE RECALL DUE TO FIRE RISK
This is actually a two-part recall. The initial one was issued in August 2024 (2024-444) in regards to a number of BMW vehicles. The issue was the same as the current, in which repeatedly starting the engine in certain vehicles could result in the starter overheating. Nearby competents could then contact the starter and cause a fire.
Owners were then advised to go to a BMW dealership that would update the vehicle software. Unfortunately, certain cars underwent ineffective repairs. These ones now require a second repair.

The issue thus persists in these vehicles. The starter can still overheat and interact with nearby components, creating a potential fire risk.
BMW will be contacting owners by mail. Transport Canada notes that they will “advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine starter.”
The affected models and years include:
- 3 Series (2020)
- X5 (2019, 2020)
- X6 (2020)
- X7 (2019, 2020)
The BMW recall was issued on September 25 and was updated on October 3, affecting 14,573 vehicles.
