It’s a fact of life: your car needs constant maintenance. Whether it’s getting those winter tires on, filling up on gas, or cleaning the interior, there’s always something to do with your car. And part of that maintenance is getting your oil changed.

But according to a new report by Oil Change Vancouver, you might be overpaying for that service. In fact, you could be paying upwards of over $50 to just get your oil changed, depending on where you go in Metro Vancouver.

Oil Changes in Vancouver

Oil Change Vancouver is a website led by Sean Collins. Made after he was tired of overpaying for oil changes, the site helps Lower Mainland residents find the best possible prices on oil changes throughout the region.

The website’s recent 2026 Oil Change Index report details a number of interesting details about how you can get the best price on oil changes in Metro Vancouver. The research is from data collected from November 2025 to January 2026, with quotes based on a 2005 Toyota Matrix (4.2L capacity) including filter and labour and any active coupons found on oilchangevancouver.com. While oil change prices can vary substantially depending on your vehicle, what type of oil it needs, as well as labour and filter type, this report is still a great reference point for many cars.

You might not be surprised to learn this, but Vancouver has some of the highest average pricing for full synthetic oil. At $131, the only places more expensive than there is Delta ($143) and Port Moody ($155).

On the other hand, the cheapest city is Surrey at $107. Other places like New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, and Coquitlam are also below the average of $128. Although, it should be noted that New Westminster’s prices are based on less than 3 shops.

The Best Savings

So, step one of getting a well-priced oil change is to get out of Vancouver. But the best places aren’t just in the cities mentioned above. In fact, you can find good deals practically everywhere. The report notes that “full synthetic service can be found for $75 to $95 in most cities.”

But if you want to be extra savvy, you can find even better savings by heading directly to specific shops. For the absolute lowest price, Imperial Street Auto Repair in Burnaby offers a full synthetic service for only ~$75. This is almost a whopping 41% below the local average. If you’re instead looking for Conventional oil, then Express Lube & Tune in Richmond has a verified price of just ~$43. This is nearly 46% below the local average.

If you compare the lowest price (~$43) to the most expensive one (~$232) for the exact same car (Toyota Matrix), then you’ll realize there’s a ~$200 price gap for oil changes in the Lower Mainland.

Getting The Best Value

Expensive doesn’t always equal better. Oil Change Vancouver says that “many of the highest-rated shops are significantly cheaper than their lower-rated competitors.” For the best bang for your buck, they recommend checking out the shops in the green quadrant of the chart below, with an interactive version that can be found here.
