Miley Cyrus has been one of the most interesting celebrities in recent time and is known for publicly sticking up for her beliefs. But it comes with surprise, that Miley Cyrus out of all people is calling out the B.C. government’s wolf cull.
Miley Cyrus took to Instagram earlier this week in an effort to protest against BC’s ongoing cull, which began last winter and has no definite end in sight.
“I am shameless when it comes to making changes in a world that at times needs to reevaluate its morals when dealing with kindness and compassion towards animals , humanity , and the environment.” Cyrus wrote on the first of three Instagram posts.
Miley Cyrus described the government’s cull as a mass extermination, and used her post as a call to action, encouraging her 28 million followers to sign a petition and put an end to the cull.
B.C.’s Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources has defended what they call a “wolf management program” numerous times and believe it’s necessary to protect the province’s caribou herds, with many at risk of becoming extinct. One herd in particular, located in the South Selkirk Mountains, has dramatically decreased in size from 46 in 2009, to 18 in 2014.
The Pacific Wild conservation group, who initially launched the petition, claim it’s wrong to blame BC’s wolves for the caribou population decline, and instead point their finger at the government for failing to protect and restore the caribou’s natural habitat which has been destroyed over the past few decades by gas and oil explorations.
Miley also went on to share a text message exchange on the topic with ‘Suga Bear’
