Many wouldn’t have guessed Luongo would be the Canucks starting goalie going into the 2013-14 season, but here he is, along with a new Johnny Canuck mask!
Luongo will debut the new mask when the Canucks kick off the 2013-14 regular season against the San Jose Sharks.
“I wanted to go back with the Johnny Canuck theme that I had from a few years ago. Hopefully it carries over bit of that luck we had when we went to the Cup final.”
While many goalies prefer detailed masks with a story, Roberto Luongo said it decided to go with a simpler concept this year.
“I prefer simpler masks, so I just pretty much took the patch that we wear on our shoulders and transplanted it straight onto the mask. I don’t like when there’s too much stuff going on because you can’t really tell sometimes what’s on the mask. It’s tough to see from far away so I rather keep it simple then everybody can see what’s going on. But at the same time try to keep it nice.”

It’s also interesting to note the mask is CCM-branded as opposed to Reebok-branded like his previous masks with the Canucks.
