Another wildfire has sparked in B.C., and this time it’s located just 30 minutes from Vancouver.

An evacuation alert has been issued by the Village of Lions Bay for approximately 30 properties in the area due to the fire. BC Wildfire Service is currently on site and working to contain the blaze that remains “out of control.”
Lone Tree Creek Wildfire in Lions Bay
The Lone Tree Creek wildfire was discovered on August 23, and is suspected to be caused by the lightning storm from over the weekend. As of August 24, the wildfire is 0.01 hectares large.
According to BC Wildfire Service, “Fire behaviour is primarily Rank 1– smouldering ground fire with a slow rate of spread… Crews are making good progress on building a hand guard around the perimeter.”
Evacuation Alert
While the wildfire is comparatively smaller than other fires spreading throughout B.C., there is still an evacuation alert active for around 30 properties on Oceanview and Kelvin Grove roads. Those in the affected area are asked to be ready to leave on short notice.
It’s recommended to have these things in order to be prepared:
- Ensure your vehicle has fuel. The tank should always be at least half-full.
- Move patio furniture, cushions and door mats indoors.
- Take down flammable curtains and window treatments.
- Connect garden hoses and fill large containers with water, such as pools, hot tubs and garbage cans. This can assist firefighters and help slow advancing flames.
- Ensure your house number is visible. This will help firefighters locate your home quickly.
- Disconnect automatic garage door openers so doors can be opened by hand if you lose power.
- Close all windows, vents, doors and other openings in the house with duct tape and/or precut pieces of plywood. Close and latch gates, but do not lock them.
