UFC President Dana White announced on Thursday afternoon that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has pulled out of his upcoming number one contenders bout with Junior Dos Santos due to his diverticulitis returning.

Dos Santos will now face Shane Carwin in the main event of UFC 131 which takes place on June 11.

Lesnar stated during a conference call that this time was not as serious as the first time but he was unable to train like he would want for a fight as big as one with Dos Santos. He also reiterated that he was not retiring from mixed martial arts but that he needs to find the “right solution” to this problem.

Lesnar stated that he will have to decide whether to have surgery or not.

Lesnar previously suffered a case of diverticulitis prior to his first scheduled bout with Carwin in November 2009. Lesnar was forced to pull out and was unable to return to the cage until July of last year. He was successful against Carwin in that fight before falling to current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez last October.
