Gas prices in the 604 have been through the roof these past few years with no sign of decline in the near future. But what if you didn’t need gas? What if you could substitute it with something else?
According to researchers, if your vehicle was powered by thorium – one of the densest materials on the planet, you would never need to refuel it again. Thorium is a substance that lasts so long, it could possibly outlive you. A small amount of thorium contains approximately 20 million times more energy than a small amount of coal, which results in a very ideal energy source.
A company called Laser Power Systems has created a concept for a thorium-powered car engine. The element is radioactive, and the team uses bits of it to build a laserbeam that heats water, produces steam, and powers an energy-producing turbine. Oh, it also looks nice too!
