Fort Nelson: the small town with the big snowman.
Lukas Mertelik, a resident in Fort Nelson has single handedly built a 20-foot tall snowman in his homes front yard for his children.
During an interview, Mertelik explained that he always enjoyed building snowmen and the inner kid in him came out to build the largest snowman in British Columbia.
Mertilik built the giant snowman over three weekends. Each weekend, he built a section and let the cold weather harden the snow during the week. To ensure it stayed stable, he even used metal bars and plywood.
Besides the snowman’s scarf, which is made of tinsel chain, all the accessories on the snowman are handmade including the large top hat.
The giant snowman is a big hit in Fort Nelson with dozens of people coming by daily to take pictures.
