Vancouver’s NYE fireworks put on an exciting show, but the first Supermoon of 2018 sure gave them a run for their money.

The phenomenon illuminated skies across the lower mainland on January 1 when the moon became full and reached its perigee – the point when it orbits closest to Earth.

Thrilled stargazers took full advantage of the celestial event and shared their captured moments on Instagram.

Supermoon over Vancouver

Supermoon 2018 🌚 . Tonight's Full Wolf Moon rises over the West End of Vancouver and reflects off of English Bay. If you look close, you can see the historic English Bay Bathhouse near the corner of Denman and Davie Street. The tower on the left has it's signs removed, this WAS the Coast Plaza Hotel. The'Old Moon' first appeared between @MtSeymour & Eagle Mountain and travelled across the ever changing Vancouver skyline. Captured at 'Blue Hour' from Kitsilano in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ~ January 1, 2018 🌝 . 🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎉 . 2017 was a very very busy year for me and fortunately I expect the same for 2018. Thank you for everyone's support, kind words and love over this past year. I regret not being able to reply to each and every comment 😔 but I appreciate every single one nonetheless 😊 I hope everyone has a happy, healthy and prosperous new year! . . . . #FullWolfMoon #FullMoon #Vancouver @Vancouver_Canada #VeryVancouver #VisitaVancouver #CuriocityVan #VancityFeature #Photos604 #604Now #VancouverIsAwesome #ExploreBC #ExploreCanada #TheGlobeWanderer #EnjoyCanada #World_Shotz #CanonCanada #EarthOfficial #ShareCanGEO #GreatNorthCollective #VisualsOfLife #NorthwestCreatives #TravelStoke #City_Explore #CityPicz #ImagesOfCanada #World_Shotz #TourCanada #StayAndWander #TotesCanadian
