Monday, January 8
Lanterns | Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival
The Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival will light up the skies of Vancouver with dozens of spectacular gossamer lanterns. It takes place at the PNE Grounds this week until Sunday, January 21st, 2018.
Being the largest festival of its kind in Canada, guests can expect to see 35 illuminated displays transforming over 14 acres of Hastings Park into an explosion of light and colours.
Skating | Robson Square Ice Rink
The Robson Square Ice Rink is open this week and will host free skates daily until Wednesday, February 28th, 2018. Skating is free for all ages. Those who own their own skates are welcome to use them. Skate rentals are $4, and rentals end 30 minutes before closing time. Furthermore, helmets are mandatory for children 12 and under. Robson Square Ice Rink will offer rentals and accept cash only.
Outdoor lights | Canyon Lights

Canyon Lights is taking until Sunday, January 28th, 2018. The suspension bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk, the rainforest and canyon are being transformed into a world of festive lights and visual enchantment. Guests will also get to see the tallest Christmas tree in the world!
Exhibition | The Fabric of Our Land
The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC with the Musqueam Indian Band present the remarkable new exhibition The Fabric of Our Land: Salish Weaving. It’s on display from Sunday, November 19th – Sunday, April 15th, 2018. Curated by Susan Rowley in collaboration with Salish weavers, this exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the past 200 years of Salish wool weaving.

The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) explores the history of our city’s street protests with City on Edge: A Century of Vancouver Activism. It’s a major, new photo-based exhibition on display until Sunday, February 18th, 2018.
Outdoor lights | Lights at Lafarge

Lights at Lafarge, a display of over 100,000 Christmas lights returned to Coquitlam on Saturday, November 25th, 2017. The route will take visitors through a dazzling 1.2 kilometres of festive lights with ten themed zones. This family-friendly event is free to attend throughout the weekend and is located near the Lafarge Lake SkyTrain station.
Tuesday, January 9
Concert | Big Boi

American rapper Big Boi performs at the Commodore Ballroom this week on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018. Tickets are $45.
Exhibition | You Are Here Calendar Exhibition
Stunning works of art were used to create a 2018 calendar used as a promotional & fundraising tool for the upcoming North Shore Cultural Mapping Project. It was spearheaded by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. The opening ceremony takes place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Dance | Bellydance Classes with Maki
Bellydance is a great way to get in shape and have fun! Level 1 and level 2 classes will be held on Tuesdays from January 9th – April 17th at Scotiabank Dance Centre.

Wednesday, January 10
Festival | Taste BC

Taste BC takes place on Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Pan Pacific Vancouver. It’s an experience of BC’s finest wine, beer and spirits accompanied by tasty fare from our best local restaurants.
Guests will enjoy excellent food and drinks, music, door prizes, and a silent auction that rivals any other. Silent auction items include luxury items, local experience packages, destination packages and delicious products made by British Columbia’s own.

Tacos | Taco Party

Yoga | Hatha + Yin Yoga 200HR Yoga Teacher Training
Just Yoga’s 200HR YIN + YANG Teacher Training programme is a comprehensive training in the practices of hatha and yin yoga and is the only kind in Vancouver. It begins this week on Friday, January 12th and goes until May, 2018.
Competition | UBC Concerto Competition
This competition sees UBC Music students battle it out against each other to be a soloist with the UBC Symphony Orchestra. Admission is free.
Dance | Electro Swing Circus

The New Year starts with Vancouver’s Electro-Swing Community heading to the Imperial, Vancouver’s undiscovered treasure of decor, acoustics and scenetastic atmosphere. Magician Travis Bernhardtt will be keeping the vaudeville flame alive with his award-winning sleight-of-hand and keeping the evening running smoothly as our master of ceremonies!
