Vancouver is home to a large and ever-growing sports scene. From the FIFA World Cup taking place in the city next summer to its lively local games, Vancouver is and has been host to plenty of world-renown and hometown matches.
This fall, Vancouverites will be closer than ever to basketball stardom as the Dallas Mavericks plan to train in this West Coast city.
DALLAS MAVERICKS COMING TO TOWN
The Dallas Mavericks are no strangers to being out-of-towners for their training camps. Just last year, they trained in Las Vegas– but now they’re heading up the border and into Canada for the next season.
NBA Insider Marc Stein announced the new training camp location on Sunday, July 20 in a post on X. “As the Cowboys hit Oxnard, sources tell @TheSteinLine and @DLLS_Mavs that the Mavericks are expected to hold training camp in Vancouver this fall after Las Vegas in 2024.”

VANCOUVER AND BASKETBALL
Ever since the Vancouver Grizzlies– who operated from 1995 to 2001– were sold off and relocated to Memphis, the city has been devoid of any NBA franchises.
As for the Dallas Mavericks, it is unknown if they will play any exhibition games in Canada. Although, them coming to town provides an up-close opportunity for fans to have another NBA team train in the city, such as when the Toronto Raptors hosted their 2023 training camp in Metro Vancouver.
Of the most highly-anticipated players you can possibly catch a glimpse of, Cooper Flagg– the NBA Draft’s top overall pick– will be here in the fall, as well as Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.
