The Metrotown neighbourhood in Burnaby is one step closer to getting a large-scale events centre.
According to the Burnaby Now, city council has approved a $500,000 study to look into the “market demand, economic impacts, surrounding infrastructure requirements, potential floor area and site requirements” that such a proposed events centre would have.
If green-lit, the multi-use Metrotown Events Centre could host a variety of events, including conferences, exhibits, festivals, celebrations, trade-shows, and more.

Metrotown: Downtown Burnaby
This development comes as part of the City of Burnaby’s Metrotown Downtown Plan, which was adopted on July 24th, 2017.
According to official documents, the Metrotown neighbourhood is designated as one of nine “Regional City Centres”, under the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy.
Such regional centres are areas that should see an above-average focus on housing and job growth, as well as the surrounding infrastructure those things would require.
“The vision of the Plan is to create an exciting, inclusive, and sustainable downtown”, says the report.
As of now, pertaining to the Metrotown Events Centre, the next two years will be the conceptual design phase. However, all signs are pointing to this becoming a reality in the near future.
