How do you like your tequila? In a shot? On the rocks? Or maybe in a refreshing cocktail? There are no wrong answers! However, as most connoisseurs know, tequila is actually designed to be served neat. But sometimes it’s okay to be bold and break traditions, especially when you’ve got a delicious tequila cocktail recipe up your sleeve.

The right cocktail can celebrate the end of a long day and help you “turn it up” for a night of fun! While there are a plethora of cocktail recipes to choose from, we’ve narrowed down a few tried and true formulas that are essential to creating a well-rounded experience.

For the main ingredient, we’ve selected Hornitos Tequila, a larger-than-life spirit you can find in Plata, Reposado and Anejo. Whereas the latter two have warmer notes (think hints of vanilla and cinnamon), the Plata is light with citrus aromas, making all options great for those looking to take a shot and try something new!

Here are three bold, summer tequila cocktail recipes to try when you’re ready to have some fun:

  • 1 ½ parts Hornitos Plata Tequila
  • ½ part fresh lime juice
  • ½ part fresh lemon juice
  • ½ part fresh orange juice
  • 4 parts grapefruit soda (or enough to fill the glass)
  • Garnish with grapefruit, lemon, lime or orange slices
  • Salt for the rim, optional

Directions: Fill up the glass with ice and add in the tequila and juices. Top it off with grapefruit soda and garnish with a wedge of citrus fruit.

If you’re ready to take chances and break tradition, pickup your cocktail’s key ingredients at your local grocery store and a bottle of Hornitos ($33.99 – $36.99 plus applicable taxes) at a B.C. liquor store across the province.

Cheers to all the shot takers out there!
