The weak loonie is continuing to make life harder for Canadians, especially with Apple joining the list of U.S. based companies increasing their rates for Canadian customers.
Apple has announced that beginning this week, prices for apps, games, and in-app experiences will rise in Canada.
“When foreign exchange rates change, we sometimes need to update prices on the App Store. Within the next 72 hours, prices for apps and In-App Purchases will increase,” Apple said an email release on the change earlier this week.
In addition to Canada, Apple will also raise prices in Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, and South Africa.
Although specific changes were not detailed, the e-mail does mention that there will now be two low-price tiers available to developers applicable to the Canadian App Store.
With the loonie looming for quite some time now, Canadians already pay up to a 20 percent premium over US Customers. The same apps that are on sale for $0.99 in the U.S. are on sale for $1.19 in Canada.
On a positive note, the weak dollar hasn’t prevented Canada from beating the U.S. and being named the second best country in the world!
