Steve Nash Announces His NBA Retirement

Steve Nash, the man who put Canadian Basketball on the map has announced his retirement after playing 19-years in the NBA.

Nash, 41, made the announcement earlier today in a letter on The Players’ Tribune and on his Twitter page after suffering from a back problem which has kept him sidelined all season and only limited him to playing only 65 total games in the last 3 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Representing Canada in the Olympics was the best experience of my career,” Nash said in the article.

Over the course of his successful career, Steve Nash won two back-to-back season MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 with the Phoenix Suns. He was also an eight-time NBA All-Star and ranked third in league’s assist history with 10,335 dimes. Steve Nash was also the leagues best free-throw shooter in history with a remarkable 90.4 percent average.

While there’s no clear indication of ‘Life after Basketball’ entails for him, Nash was named the general manager for Canada’s senior men’s basketball team in 2012, ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.

It also looks unlikely that he’ll be moving back to Victoria anytime soon after he recently purchased his $4.8 million retirement home in Manhattan Beach.
