Get ready, drivers: Vancouver’s Oak Street is temporarily shutting down starting Thursday, and that means you’ll be facing potential traffic and detours.

The road closures are to support crane activity for Vancouver Coastal Health’s Vancouver General Hospital Operating Room Renewal Project.
Oak Street Closure
Oak Street will experience a full road closure starting early Thursday morning, September 10. Vehicle traffic will be closed off in both directions between W 10th and W 12th Avenues.
According to the City of Vancouver, the closure will be in place 24 hours a day until September 22, although access to residents, businesses, and health services will be maintained. VPD traffic control personnel will also be on site to support the public and maintain intersections outside of the closure.
What to Know
If you’re travelling in the area, here’s a few things you’ll want to know:
- Oak Street will be fully closed from W 10th Avenue to W 12th Avenue.
- Cross streets remain open with intermittent closures.
- Expect detours and parking restrictions throughout the project.
For cyclists, the W 10th Avenue bikeway will remain open, but do be sure to follow posted signs and travel with caution. Likewise, sidewalks on Oak Street will remain open with some intermittent closures.
Bus service will be maintained with some detours in place.
