Kendrick Lamar and SZA brought their “Grand National Tour” to Toronto this past Friday and Saturday, performing in Drake’s hometown as part of their cross-country run. But one attendee stirred up unexpected drama. Jagmeet Singh, former leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party.
After a photo surfaced showing Singh at the show, Drake didn’t hold back. He reportedly messaged Singh directly with, “You’re a goof,” and posted a screenshot of the exchange on his Instagram Story.

Jagmeet Singh, 46, who recently represented a Burnaby riding in British Columbia, responded on Sunday, explaining he was there to see SZA—not Kendrick.
“I was born in this city. I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all,” Singh wrote on social media. “OVO and Drake have lifted this city and Canada. For me, it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick.”

The comment comes amid a heated rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar that’s now spilled into the courtroom.
Drake is suing Universal Music Group—the label both artists are signed to—for defamation. The lawsuit centers on Kendrick’s diss track “Not Like Us,” which Drake claims falsely accuses him of being a pedophile, putting his safety at risk and damaging his reputation.
None of the claims have been proven in court.
In the aftermath of the 2025 federal election, Jagmeet Singh announced his resignation as leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) after failing to secure his seat in Burnaby Central. This marked the end of his tenure, which began in 2017, and the NDP’s loss of official party status in Parliament . Singh’s departure has left a significant void in Canadian politics, prompting discussions about the future direction of the NDP.
Meanwhile, Drake continues to make headlines with his musical endeavors. His collaborative album with PartyNextDoor, Some Sexy Songs 4 U, released on February 14, 2025, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, tying the record for the most number-one albums by a solo artist . Additionally, Drake is set to headline all three days of the 2025 Wireless Festival in London, a feat that sold out in record time.
