Shopping at IKEA just got sweeter.
In addition to the cheap food we all have a hard time resisting at the Swedish furniture store, we will now have to resist the urge for Swedish bulk candy.
IKEA has announced it will roll out LÖRDAGSGODIS Pick & mix sweets across all of its locations in Canada, including two in metro Vancouver.
The new in-store candy shop will offer 48 varieties of confectioneries such as gummies, sours, marshmallows, chocolate, licorice and more. The sweets are made from Swedish recipes produced in and imported from Europe, and feature no trans fats, no GMOs, no high-fructose corn syrup, and natural colors.
The idea of receiving candy from a store stems from a Scandinavian tradition known as “Lördagsgodis” in which children were allowed to visit the local store every Saturday for a bag of candy. Lördagsgodis has since grown to include any day of the week when children and adults alike splurge on a special sweet treat.
“As a young boy growing up in Sweden, I remember how “Saturday candy” was such a big part of my childhood as I looked forward to my favourite sweets. I’m now excited to be launching Pick & Mix here at IKEA and extending those traditions to our Canadian customers,” said Stefan Sjostrand, President, IKEA Canada.
The bulk candy shops arrive to the Richmond and Coquitlam IKEA stores on October 27, and October 28 respectively. Each customer can create their own mixed bag of candy, scooping one kind only, or one of each, at $1.99 for 100 grams.
