Among universities such as Harvard and Stanford, it’s clear that B.C.’s education scene is making global waves.

NTU Rankings

The list comes from National Taiwan University (NTU), who has been releasing the “Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities” (also known as “NTU Rankings”) since 2007.

“The Rankings system was developed by a research team led by Dr. Mu-Hsuan Huang, a professor of library and information science at NTU,” explains NTU. Universities are ranked across six knowledge fields and twenty-seven selected subject areas, encompassing a wide range of disciplines.

At the top of the NTU Rankings, you can probably guess that it’s Harvard University and Stanford University in first and second, respectively. Harvard ranks a total of 11.1 points higher than Stanford.

But B.C. isn’t far behind: out of 1,200 institutions, the University of British Columbia (UBC) sits at #32 with a score of 66.6. In a Facebook post, UBC commented on the ranking, saying that it has ranked as 2nd in Canada on top of being 32nd in the world.

“From groundbreaking discoveries to real-world impact, UBC continues to set the standard for research excellence on the world stage.”
