About a 5-minute walk from Mount Pleasant’s public library, in between a pair of gate-keeping trees, is the Cascade Room.
It’s in Vancouver, but it’s inspired by the classic UK pub.
The Cascade Room sits along what was once referred to as Brewery Creek, an unofficial district on Main Street that became synonymous with craft beer.
One of the breweries in the district was the original Vancouver Brewery, whose flagship brew was called “Cascade: The Beer Without Peer.”
The Cascade Room’s name is homage to that.
Their drink menu includes a wide variety of red and white wines, as well as bubbles and rosé.
Then there are the selection of cocktails, which include creations like the Super Wolf Moon, Hemmingway’s Doorbell, Pornstar, and Aviation.
Happy Hour runs until 6:00 pm, with drinks under $8 and food (such as mushroom poutine, chicken wings, and sausage rolls) under $10.
Their dinner menu (they’re dinner-only, no lunch) includes all the classics. You’ve got your salads, charcuterie, burgers, fries, and chips. (They also have a dessert menu.)
Then there’s the daily features. Sundays are “Sunday Roast” days, which features specials on roasted food as well as several house wines.
Mondays are Pies and Pints days, featuring, as you might expect, pies (of the pot variety, for $10) and pints. Wednesdays are Wine and Pizza days, and Thursdays are Cocktails On Tap days, with cocktails on tap for $8, all night long. (Every now and then they also host “tap takeovers”, featuring other local breweries.)
All of this is to say that the Cascade Room has something for everyone, on one day or another. If you’re looking for a great weekend hangout spot, add this to the list, along with The Den Arcade & Drinkery, and One Under, an underground pub with some top-tier golf simulators.
