Popular Cooking Ingredient Recalled In B.C. Amid Allergen Concerns

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published a recall notice for a popular cooking ingredient, which is being pulled from the marketplace due to allergen concerns.

The recall is concerned with Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste), which was sold in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

According to the notice, “the affected products are being recalled from the marketplace because they contain wheat which is not declared on the label.”

Those with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders are asked to not consume the recalled products as they may cause serious or life-threatening reactions. As a Class I recall, “there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death.”

What to Do

If you own the recalled product, the CFIA recommends you either throw it out or return it to the location where it was purchased.
