Passengers on a BC Ferries ship were recently mesmerized by a unique encounter with a pod of orcas.
The pod can be seen swimming in Active Pass on a video taken not far from the boat on the 1 p.m. Sunday route between Victoria (Swartz Bay) and Vancouver (Tsawwassen).
An awareness-raising non-profit called Salish Sea Orca Squad posted the video on social media.
“We saw them coming and right away we knew they were transient orcas. There was a group of about eight,” says Rachelle Hayden, the group’s co-founder.
