Medicinal marijuana could soon be distributed at the pharmacy of two major drug store retailers.
We recently reported on how one of BC’s most loved brands—London Drugs, is hoping to sell medicinal marijuana off its shelves.
Another drug store giant Shopper’s Drug Mart is actively looking into the sales of medicinal marijuana and the benefits of having it so readily available.
Lana Gogas, Manager of Communications at Shopper’s Drug Mart, told us in a statement:
“Current Health Canada regulations stipulate that the only legal method to obtain medicinal marijuana is through a licenced producer. Therefore, pharmacies are not permitted to dispense medical marijuana at this time.”
She mentions that this matter affects the entire pharmacy profession as a whole.
“Pharmacists are medication experts and play a significant role in the dispensing and monitoring of medication to ensure safe and optimal use. We believe that dispensing medical marijuana through pharmacy, like other medications, is the safest option.”
While there are plenty of cannabis dispensaries across Vancouver—having it available at two retail giants would make it much more accessible for those who need it.
