A massive fireball illuminated the sky over British Columbia and Alberta around 10:15 pm on Monday, September 4th.
The giant ball of light was seen by multitudes of people across both provinces, and the RCMP received numerous calls from alarmed citizens.
Eyewitness Reports of Massive Fireball
People called in and reported that a giant fireball was seen on the horizon followed by a very loud booming sound. An eyewitness told CTV News that “a green-coloured streak that split into two and spread across the sky, and it just completely went out.”

The fireball was seen from Calgary all the way to Hornby Island, with eyewitness reports claiming it seemed like it would land right by them.

CBC News reports that Brett Gladman, who teaches Astronomy at UBC, said “it was likely a meteor travelling south to north, visible from hundreds of kilometres away.”
No material evidence of the meteor have been found yet, but fragments may be found in the future.
