In just two weeks, Food Recall Warnings and Notifications have recalled over 80 different pistachio and pistachio-containing products across Canada in November. As of today, there are almost 300 products on the recall list, sparking concern about potential contaminations in other pistachio-related foods.
Pistachio Recalls In Canada
The first recall for pistachio-related products came on July 24, 2025 for Habibi brand Pistachio Kernel. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) noted the cause to be due to Salmonella contamination. Secondary recalls have since followed for various other products that were made using the recalled pistachios.
The food safety investigation has continued throughout the year, with the CFIA “sampling and testing at various stages along the supply chain and working with industry to verify that recalled products have been removed from the marketplace.”

But the Salmonella contamination has become so wide that the CFIA has now combined all of the related recalls into a single list. “The consolidated list includes food recall warnings and notifications issued by the CFIA as part of the ongoing food safety investigation.”
Salmonella In Pistachios
While contaminated pistachios may not look or smell spoiled, they can still make you quite sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are especially at risk of getting seriously ill. Dead infections can occur, as well.
Healthy people can also experience short-term symptoms. This includes fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. As for long-term complications, there is the chance of severe arthritis.
If you think you have become sick after consuming a recalled product, the CFIA advises to contact your healthcare provider. Moreover, in order to mitigate further contaminations, it’s important to check to see if you have any recalled products. If you do, you can either throw them out or return them to the location where they were purchased.
As of now, the CFIA is still working on determining which pistachio products are infected with Salmonella. You can find the entire list of contaminated items here, with further information on the pistachio recalls in Canada here, as well.
