Parking: it’s one of the worst parts about going out these days. No matter where you go, every parking lot seems to be charging a premium. And good luck finding a free spot– there’s a near 100% guarantee that the stall will already be filled.

If you’re headed out to White Rock Beach to enjoy some crisp fall sunshine, then be prepared to fork over some extra cash. Prices have gone up for parking, and will persist into the winter season.

INCREASING COSTS

White Rock Beach is a popular spot for the whole of Metro Vancouver. Home to an iconic pier, sunset views, and plenty of prime spots for a midday stroll, you’ll constantly find the parking lot here full.

Paid parking has been a longtime part of the beach experience here. In 2019, the cost had been much lower with its parking rate zones. High-demand zones cost $3.75/hour while Value Priced zones were $3.25/hour during summer months.

October, February, and March was $2/hour for waterfront stalls while free parking was available in the winter months.

The days of free and $2 parking are long over. Current rates then increased over the years, reaching $4.50/hour for peak season (beginning of March to end of October) and $2.50/hour in winter during 2023 and 2024.

In 2025, a car trip to White Rock Beach will now set you back $5/hour. And that’s not just for summer rates– the price increase will apply to winter costs, too. All lot and on-street waterfront parking locations are $3/hour from November to February.

Obviously, people aren’t happy about this. But this has already been a trend for much of Metro Vancouver, such as when one Vancouver park implemented paid parking after always offering it for free. Whether or not White Rock Beach’s parking will continue to climb in price is to be seen.
