“In 2019, the peak of this shower – which tends to come in a burst and usually lasts for less than a day – is expected to fall on the morning of April 23, though under the light of a bright waning gibbous moon” reads EarthSky.

In a moonless sky, stargazers might see from about 10 to 20 Lyrid meteors an hour at the shower’s peak.

Lyrid Meteor Shower

The Lyrid meteor shower is known for being one of the oldest known meteor showers. As a matter of fact, records of this shower date back some 2700 years.

To get the best vantage point to witness this meteor shower, you should go as far away from the city lights as you can get. Parks, remote and rural areas are typically better for catching a glimpse of this natural wonder.

Fingers crossed for clear skies!
