Famous Actor/director, Kevin Smith, says that he will personally stand in the doorway of The Rio Theatre in East Vancouver if the city tries to shut it down.
The loveable star of Clerks, as well as Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma, and Mallrats, has a decidedly soft spot for the local gem. As a Vancouver Film School alumni, the star would’ve likely attended a number of features at the eclectic spot.
As a result, he tweeted that he would happily host a benefit to raise funds and awareness for the theatre.
VFS alum and Vancouver lover here, ready to assist! I’ve long loved the @RioTheatre and would be honored and happy to do a benefit screening/Q&A to raise loot & awareness for the @RioTheatre! Would a Family Day event be too soon? https://t.co/jvJrPd8twk

Kevin Smith Fights for Iconic Rio Theatre
It should be noted, however, that Smith may not have the funds available to save the flailing empire. He tweeted to convey that he probably doesn’t have the resources some fathom he would.
I put all my money in a dirty envelope I stuff down my underwear, so I don’t wanna put my mouth there. Also, I can’t afford to buy the @RioTheatre: I haven’t had a hit movie in years! (Wait a second: Have I EVER had a hit movie?) Regardless? Thanks for the assist, Gretz! #Helpful https://t.co/a2h6yLfjGY
