IKEA Canada To Help Syrian Refugees With $180K Furniture Donation

IKEA Canada To Support Syrian Refugees With $180,000 Furniture Donation

Syrian refugees are officially making their way to Canada, and to help them settle in, IKEA Canada has announced it will provide nearly $200,000 in home furnishing donations.

Canada has committed to sponsoring 25,000 refugees by the end of February 2016 in response to the Syrian refugee crisis overseas. Many Canadian families and charitable organizations have opened their doors to provide shelter for the newcomers – something IKEA recognizes and hopes to help with by donating $180,000 CAD in furniture to surrounding communities of each of the 12 operating IKEA Canada stores, including the two in metro Vancouver.

Donated products will include bed frames, mattresses, linens, cookware and tableware, appliances, lighting, dining room tables and chairs, children’s toys and books and living room seating.

To receive donations from IKEA, registered charitable organizations must fill out applications before March 31st, 2016 through an online form.

This program is being launched in the midst of IKEA’s Brighter Lives for Refugees campaign.
