Caught red handed. On Thursday, June 6th, the Delta Police Traffic Unit was conducting team enforcement on Highway 17 (aka South Fraser Perimeter Road) where they stopped six vehicles for excessive speeding.
It’s important to note that the speed limit along this highway is 80 km/h.
Each vehicle was impounded for seven days and towed away after being pulled over by police. The Delta Police Traffic Unit reports that the speeds the vehicles were travelling at ranged from 128 km/h to 158 km/h.
The vehicles included:
- A taxi with two passengers who had to be transferred to another cab when their taxi was impounded
- A driver with an interlock device on the ignition (a possible requirement for drivers who’ve been caught driving impaired
- Two vehicles, travelling approximately two car-lengths apart, at over 150 km/hr
- A driver with an interim driving license
In BC, the fine for excessive speeding ranges from $368 to $483.
