Hold off on setting your clocks back this fall, as B.C. may be eliminating daylight savings this month.

B.C. premier John Horgan is introducing legislation to get rid of daylight savings, after a popular consultation voted to scrap it.

“I expect we’ll have legislation in weeks ahead,” Horgan said, as reported on CTV News.

Earlier this summer, British Columbia asked its residents to vote on whether they wanted to keep daylight savings.

223,000 people participated in the vote, drawing the most engagement for a poll in B.C.’s history. Of those votes, 93% of people voted against keeping daylight savings.

Horgan has been meeting with government leaders both North and South of the provincial border, in hopes of remaining in the same timezone.

“I believe that the West Coast moves in lockstep,” Horgan said in a Global News interview. “We’re better off than if we do it piecemeal.”

Horgan met with Yukon premier Sandy Silver on Monday and plans to meet with Washington state and Oregon governors this week, as well.

But getting the states on board is a different story. Each state needs federal approval. British Columbia and the Yukon, however, can make the decision on their own accord.

Horgan has not yet confirmed the plan to eliminate the twice-annual event, but said he will provide a confirmation before November 3rd, when daylight savings would usually take place.
