Valentine’s Day in Vancouver; Date Night Ideas

Whether you are a couple who has carefully planned for the romantic holiday weeks in advance or are looking to keep things low-key, we’ve come up with the ultimate date night guide for Valentine’s Day to fit your mood. Because Valentine’s Day is whatever you want to make it.

Valentine’s Date Night

Drop into one of Canada’s best eateries

Are you a foodie couple that can’t wait to try out the latest restaurant together? If so, why not try Kissa Tanto or Savio Volpe, two new eateries that topped the best new restaurants in Canada list? Kissa Tanto is a Japanese-Italian restaurant that looks like it could be a jazz bar in Tokyo while Savio Volpe’s classic retro vibes make for the right atmosphere to enjoy contemporary Italian fare. If you’re looking to save some money, Bauhaus Restaurant and Nuba offers BYOB on certain days. You can check out the full list here.

Satisfy your sweet tooth

They say that a way to a woman’s heart is through her ears, but chocolate is a strong contender. What can be better to hit the spot than grabbing warm and sweet Belgian waffles on a chilly evening with your loved one? Afterwards, if your stomach can handle it, you can make your way to Cacao 70 and share a hot chocolate or a milkshake to wrap up a decadent afternoon.

Go on a spontaneous getaway

At this point in the game, any weekend getaway is going to be spontaneous. While you may not be eager to spend your budget on last-minute air travel or hotel accommodation, you don’t have to travel too far from home. Luckily we live in BC where we have a wealth of options for cozy getaways. Whether it’s a cabin on the beaches of Tofino or on the Sunshine coast, there are plenty of charming rustic spots to spend an intimate weekend away from the city.

Play the staycation card

There is nothing wrong with staying indoors when you feel like it. After all, you’re an adult. It might be just what the doctor ordered. With a proper line-up of movies supplied by Netflix, ordering poutine delivery and topping it with dessert delivery sounds like a perfect night to unwind, unplug and destress.

Arrange an on-campus date

For lovebirds on campus, there are plenty of places nearby that’ll give you good food and ambience. It can be tough as a student, even if you are the type that’s big into making romantic gestures to find activities that won’t break the wallet. However, we’ve found a couple of restaurants as well as dessert places near UBC that’s the ticket.

Take a stroll along the beach

No place to be? Take advantage of the change in the weather and take a stroll through Vancouver’s many parks. You can take a walk near the Olympic Cauldron or wander to the end of the Stanley Park seawall. Although the walk may be familiar, experiencing it in a different season can make some sights feel like new again. The pinkish blue colours of the winter sky right near sunset is much more different than in the summer!
