Vancouver kids could soon have the chance to become theatre critics for a day, thanks to a new opportunity from Cirque du Soleil.
With LUZIA arriving in Vancouver on November 4, Cirque du Soleil is searching for young reviewers under the age of 12 to experience the production and share their opinions. Applications will be accepted from November 3 to 8, with parents and guardians able to submit an entry through this online form.
The initiative gives a handful of local children the opportunity to attend the show with their families. Afterwards, they’ll get to share what they thought about the performances, from their favourite moments to anything that surprised them.
Vancouver Kids Get Their Turn As Critics
The junior critic program will take place during the week of November 16, shortly after LUZIA opens under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place.
Selected children will attend a performance alongside their families, with seating and snacks included. However, their main assignment comes after the curtain falls.
Each junior critic will take part in a short video interview and provide a written review of the show. Cirque du Soleil wants to hear their genuine reactions, including what impressed them, made them laugh or left them with questions.
The reviews will then be shared on Cirque du Soleil’s website and social media channels during the week of November 23. Some may also appear in select media outlets.
For local kids who enjoy performing arts, storytelling or simply sharing their opinions, it’s a chance to see what reviewing a live production is all about.
What Is Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA?
The production takes audiences through an imagined version of Mexico, combining acrobatics, music, elaborate costumes and theatrical storytelling.
Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, in association with Brigitte Poupart, the show draws inspiration from Mexico’s landscapes, culture and traditions. Its name combines the Spanish words luz, meaning light, and lluvia, meaning rain.
One of the production’s most distinctive features is its use of water during live acrobatic performances. In fact, LUZIA was the first touring Cirque du Soleil show to incorporate water into its acrobatics.
Audiences can expect aerial performances, elaborate stage designs and scenes that move between different environments.
The show takes place under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place, near False Creek. For more information about the production, check out our earlier look at LUZIA’s return to Vancouver.
How To Apply For The Junior Critic Opportunity
Parents and guardians can apply on behalf of children under 12 years old. The application asks them to explain why their child would make a good junior critic.
Families can make their case through a written submission or short video. Children don’t need to submit a formal theatre review as part of their application.
Instead, the organizers are looking for young participants who can share their perspectives on the experience.
The application window is brief, running for just six days.
Applications open: Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Application deadline: Sunday, November 8, 2026
