So, you’ve got a layover in Hong Kong. Maybe you’re en route to somewhere else in Asia, or perhaps you’re headed home– but what to do with all that extra time?
Instead of lingering around the airport, why not head out and enjoy the sights of Hong Kong? Turn those waiting hours into a cultural experience with Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) free local tours.
HOW DO I GET A FREE TOUR IN HONG KONG?
As long as you’re eligible for the free tour, then you can join in on the fun. Here are the requirements:
- “You are a transit passenger at HKIA,
- Your layover is more than 7 hours, and
- You meet Hong Kong’s entry requirements (e.g. valid visa or travel document).”

If this all applies to you, then great! You can pre-book your tour up to 3 months ahead of your intended tour date, or head to one of the service counters to register upon arrival. Seats are subject to availability, so if you want to assure your spot, then it’s best to book ahead.
“We are delighted to introduce the new free local tour service for transfer passengers at HKIA to turn transit time into cultural exploration opportunities,” said Chief Executive Office of Airport Authority Hong Kong, Vivian Cheung. “With the support from Trip.com, we look forward to presenting Hong Kong’s unique beauty to travellers from around the world and promoting tourism, through which we aim to attract more passengers to transfer at Hong Kong and strengthen HKIA’s position as a premier international aviation hub.”
