Canada has officially retaliated against the U.S.’s 50% tariffs with a massive list of its own, detailing all the products that are subject to counter tariffs.
“As a result of the U.S.’s decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on $27.6 billion of Canadian goods effective August 22, 2026, the Prime Minister announced that Canada will match the incoming U.S. Section 338 tariffs – dollar for dollar,” wrote the Government of Canada.

Canada Counter Tariffs Against the U.S.
“Over the last several months, the Government of Canada has negotiated intensively and in good faith with the United States (U.S.) to conclude a mutually beneficial trade arrangement,” the Canadian government wrote on its website. “However, the concessions that were asked of Canada were neither fair nor economically sound, and would have undermined the interest of workers, businesses, and all Canadians.”
Following the U.S.’s own tariffs, Canada has followed suit, dollar for dollar. The countermeasures will be applied to $27.6 billion in products imported from the U.S., and will be effective as of 12:01am, September 8, 2026.
What Products are Affected?
A lot. Hundreds, in fact.
The counter tariffs focus on sectors such as steel and aluminum, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, plastics, and electronics. Moreover, certain sectors like steel and aluminum will see existing counter tariffs increased from 25% to 50%.
