Watch The Trailer For Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Vancouver-Filmed Action Comedy

Arnold Schwarzenegger aka “The Austrian Oak” filmed the action comedy Killing Gunther with a lot of destruction around Vancouver last summer.


He plays the world’s best hit man who is hunted by a misfit group of other professional assassins. The movie also stars Taran Killam who makes his directorial debut, his wife and Vancouverite Cobie Smulders and his SNL cast mate Bobby Moynihan. Kumail Nanjiani from Silicon Valley and UBC grad Hannah Simone from New Girl also appear.


The movie was previously titled Why We’re Killing Gunther. It was written by star and director Taran Killam. It filmed in Vancouver, Cloverdale, New Westminster and Burnaby during July and August 2016. Killam was let go from his Saturday Night Live contract that August along with Jay Pharoah.

The movie was picked up by Saban Films this year and will premiere at the San Diego Film Festival, stream video on demand and make a limited theatrical release in October 2017.

“The Governator” can also be seen in a Russian-Chinese fantasy adventure film Viy 2: Journey to China or Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask.

It also stars Jackie Chan and is set to release in Russia this winter. He has also been announced for The Legend of Conan and an Untitled Terminator Reboot movie.



Hannah Simone was born in London, grew up in Calgary and New Dehli and then relocated to Vancouver. She graduated from UBC and worked for the UN in England. She’s most recognized for being a VJ on MuchMusic and for playing Cece in the Fox sitcom New Girl. Her father is Indian while her English mother is of German, Italian and Creek Cypriot.


Cobie Smulders, born Jacoba Francisca Maria “Cobie” Smulders, was born in Vancouver and is known for her role of Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother. She also plays Maria Hill within the Marvel Universe including the Avengers films and Agents of SHIELD television series.
