The city with one of the highest crime rates in Canada, Abbotsford, is getting a new courthouse.
The Province made the announcement earlier this week, and plans of opening and operating the development in 2021.
The new courthouse will be situated within the City Centre Civic Precinct on land leased to the Province by the City of Abbotsford.
The facility will include three Supreme Court courtrooms, along with eight provincial court courtrooms and three judicial conference rooms. In addition, there are also plans to incorporate justice programs, a Justice Access Centre, as well as a parkade.
The project will cost an estimated $150-million, and begin construction in mid-2018. It’s estimated that over 1,000 jobs will be created through the course of construction.
With just under 90 court locations throughout the province, 96% of British Columbians live within an hour of a staffed court location.
