Tipping culture may be getting out of hand, but one coffee shop is looking to change that. Going in the opposite direction of Metro Vancouver’s tipping standards, cowdog wants to keep cash in your wallet while making sure their employees have enough in theirs.

cowdog’s No Tipping Policy

Everyone knows how bad tipping has gotten in recent times. From the standard tipping rate jumping from 10, to 12, to 15, and to an astronomical 18 percent, it is no understatement to say that people are upset about just how far off the deep end tipping culture has gone.

cowdog is an entirely different ball park when it comes to this. For one, they have an active no tipping policy. That means you don’t need to feel bad about selecting “no tip” when paying because there won’t be any! cowdog aims to pay their employees a living wage, which means tipping becomes completely obsolete.

A Second Lease After A Successful Start

After only being open for 9 months, cowdog’s owners Joe Lee and Ryan Leenstra signed the lease to their second location. This comes after the major success of their first location. This small coffee shop first began as a pop-up for friends, and is now quickly gaining traction among Metro Vancouver residents. Unsurprisingly, people absolutely love the strict no-tipping policy.

The shop serves a variety of coffee shop classics, ranging from espressos, teas, and bites such as buns, cookies, and croissants.

cowdog’s philosophy is one that many Metro Vancouver residents can get behind. With happy customers, well-paid employees, and fantastic coffee, the anticipation for their second location is very high

cowdog’s current location is on Oak St. in Vancouver. Their second location will be opening in Kitsilano on 1927 W. 4th Ave. with their soft opening on May 10 from 10am to 4pm. Be prepared to arrive early to get your hands on their much-loved matcha!
