Burnaby already has two tall towers approved and under construction. These will be the tallest towers outside downtown Vancouver. The plan for the Station Square/Metrotown redevelopment reveals even higher towers in Burnaby’s future.

If approved, the first phase will include retail at ground level, offices on the next two storey’s, and five residential towers ranging in height from 35 to 57 storey’s.
Metrotown is already a busy hub and with all these additional towers being proposed it’s going to be an even busier hub. Plans are calling for towers to the south of Metrotown Station as well to the north. It looks as though Burnaby is making a serious push to increase density.
Look for Both Brentwood and Metrotown to become the continued focal points of redevelopment. Now if only they could improve their street level pedestrian activity. Redevelopment near shopping malls usually means little outside foot traffic. I don’t see that changing much.
However, don’t count out Guildford mall, they have some serious renovations and plans for the near future, whoever thought competition between malls could be so interested!
