Operation Red Nose Back In Metro Vancouver For The Holidays

Holiday Road Blocks In B.C. Catch 100+ Impaired Drivers In 1 Night

In appreciation of leading Santa’s sleigh, Rudolph’s red nose will once again help lead home many potential impaired drivers during the holidays in metro Vancouver.

The Operation Red Nose campaign has returned for 2015, and helps drive home motorists that have had too much to drink. The service is run by volunteers, and in partnership with ICBC. The operation’s goal is to prevent drunk driving, and ultimately the chance of crashes in our communities.

This year, the by donation service will be available in Abbotsford‐Mission, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Delta‐Richmond, Kamloops, Langley‐Surrey, Nanaimo, New Westminster, North Shore, Prince George, Ridge‐Meadows, Tri Cities and Williams Lake. Notably, Vancouver is once again absent from the list of areas serviced.

How Operation Red Nose Works:

When a driver feels they’ve had too much to drink, they can call a local number where three Operation Red Nose volunteers come and pick them up. One volunteer will drive the person’s car, another will be in the passenger’s seat as a navigator and a second car driven by a third volunteer will trail them to make sure the person(s) arrives home safely.

Each city in the lower mainland has it’s own number, which you can retrieve from the Operation Red Nose website.

This year, there are 4,300 volunteers across British Columbia serving their local communities.
